Sony reported the sale of over 1 million PlayStation 4 systems in the first 24 hours after the system launched on Friday. Given that the system launched in only 2 regions, the US and Canada, such brisk sales are a good sign. The president of Sony Computer Entertainment , Andrew House expressed the company's pleasure with the current sales standings, stating "We are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal, Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29." Being the fastest selling customer in history will certainly help Sony in the coming week. With Microsoft's Xbox One console preparing for it's highly anticipated November 22nd launch, Sony's lead will help.
While the PlayStation 4 was reported by retailers to be outselling the Xbox One in pre-orders by a 3:1 margin, Microsoft has generated a great deal of pre-launch buzz and media hype. Whether the Xbox One will see the launch numbers Sony's PS4 has remains to be seen, but consumers will definitely be the winners either way.
