Don't kill your cat... Call Dell

A number of Dell Latitude E6430u laptop users have been plagued with the nose turning odor of "cat urine" emanating from their machines. The issue apparently was first reported back in June by Dell Support Forum user "three west". Since his first post related to the issue, there have been a number of other users complaining of the same problem.

While Dell senior technical adviser SteveB has noted that "biological contamination is not suspected", and that a "health hazard is not suspected at this time", the issue has become way more serious for several users apparently. User holysmokecp stated "My wife doesn’t want it in the house, and my colleagues don’t want it at work." The issue even spawned a relted meme.

For 1 user, it supposedly got even worse. User askanyoneelse reported that he had to put down their 1 year old cat "thinking it was pissing on my computer each night", even going so far as to demand "I want a new cat, vet fees, letter of apology and payment for my divorce lawyer, since my wife has left me after finding this out." While the validity of his claim is purely speculative, the problem is widespread enough that Dell has agreed to address the issue to appease the affected customers. After examining the issue in detail and doing their own investigating, Dell determined that smell was due to a new manufacturing process, and the are urging customer affected by the issue to contact tech support to arrange for an exchange of their "litterbox" scented machines.
